Making Research Relevant - the Offer

To ensure I can make research relevant to your organisation, it's important to know there is a match between your needs and my skill set.  It is easiest for your organisation to establish this if you have a clear statement of the problem, opportunity or need.  If there is not a good match, I won't pretend otherwise but a clear statement may help me recommend a more suitable colleague or organisation from my extensive contacts in the academic and practitioner communities.

It is important from your perspective to commit to engaging constructively with ideas from recent research and to share with me ideas and concerns openly and honestly right from the outset.  My commitment to you will be to make what I do absolutely relevant to your particular organisational needs.  There is no one model I promote because your needs will be unique and deserve special care and attention.

Research Broker Service

As well as on-site work, I offer a remote 'research broker' service: preparing expert briefings and top level summaries of the latest scientific thinking on a topic of interest to you.  Organisations can often identify a topic on which they want the latest research thinking, but it can be hard to search and access such thinking efficiently.  Without some expert translation, or brokering, it can be very difficult to make that relevant to you.

Rather than wait several years for the hottest new ideas to filter through, it can help to stay ahead of innovations in HRM and managing organisations.  Equally, it is important that any ideas are tailored to take account of your unique circumstances.  Clients for whom I have undertaken such work include Diageo, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the Department of Central and Local Government, and a variety of NHS organisations as well as smaller technology and consultancy firms.

There are a few core activities in organisational behaviour or HRM where I am recognised internationally as an expert within the academic community, for instance leadership, ethics, governance and employee turnover.  You are unlikely to find someone as skilled at accessing and brokering the latest thinking on these topics in a way that is tailored to your needs.  If these are important topics for your organisation, contact me for an initial, no-obligation consultation.

As well as making original contributions in these topics, my research expertise makes me very skilled at accessing and summarising the latest thinking in other areas.  If there is a particular issue you face, a quick conversation can help establish if I am the right person to help.  I only offer my services if I have relevant pre-existing expertise.

This research brokering service can help your organisation develop and apply expertise in different ways.  For example, you may require (i) bespoke research summaries - jargon free and in comprehensible English - with (ii) executive briefings alongside (iii) a commitment to supplementary support and advice.  All of this will be relevant to your situation.  As well as traditional high-quality reports, formats & media can include Word, Powerpoint, Flash presentations, Excel spreadsheets & SPSS output where appropriate, CD-ROM and web pages among others (I exclusively designed and built this site and its contents).  In addition, I can offer advice and support on how to cascade expertise and learning within your organisation.

To see whether I can add value to your company then in the first instance please feel free to e-mail me using the address at the top of the page (not shown as a direct link to avoid spam).  There is no initial consultation fee.
